From August 23 to 25, Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye was the scene of the 4th Microfrancophonie summit, an event bringing together delegates from French-speaking micronations from around the world. This summit, marked by rich exchanges and ceremonies steeped in tradition, brought together 40 participants, including 35 delegates from 18 micronations, with a notable presence of two African delegations.
An Iconic Opening Ceremony
From Friday evening, participants were invited to follow a traditional ceremony, inspired by funeral rites. The procession of the four stones, a central element of this tradition, consecrated the village of Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye near Grenoble in France for the duration of the summit. Once the stones were placed in the four corners of the village, the summit could officially begin.
Débats et Conférences : Utopies et Dystopies au Cœur des Discussions
From Friday evening, participants were invited to follow a traditional ceremony, inspired by funeral rites. The procession of the four stones, a central element of this tradition, consecrated the village of Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye in Fomoire territory for the duration of the summit. Once the stones were placed in the four corners of the village, the summit could officially begin.
Debates and Conferences: Utopias and Dystopias at the Heart of the Discussions
On Saturday morning, the conference began with a symbolic transfer of power. The Prince-Reigning Vincent 1st of Hélianthis presented the flag of Microfrancophonie to Venerable Sogoln Yg Ysca, President of the Fomoire Institute, host of the event this year. After this short ceremony, the summit was officially opened with a speech by the Secretary-General, Mr. Dominic Desaintes.
This year's central theme, "Utopias to resist dystopia", explored the role of micronations in an increasingly uncertain global context. Grand Duke Nicholas of Flandrensis has placed emphasis on environmental protection, a subject of paramount importance to his micronation. Dominic Desaintes, representative of a Quebec micronation, addressed the theme of minority rights, a subject particularly dear to his heart.
The question of micronational excesses was also raised, particularly in the context of interactions with the journalists present. Emperor Olivier of Angyalistan spoke of the potential risks linked to “individual sovereignty” and sectarian excesses. Another important topic of debate has been that of cryptocurrencies. Prince Jean-Pierre IV of Aigues-Mortes, an expert in the fight against banking fraud, warned of the potential dangers of these technologies, stressing that not all micronations have the skills necessary to master them.
The Orna Games: A Symbol of Fomoire Unity
In parallel with the discussions, forum Olympics, known as the "Orna Games", brought together forum citizens and delegates from other micronations. The aim of these games was to designate the bearer of the magical sword Orna, the symbol of Formori unity. This year, the victory went to Dame Fomoire Albygane Yg Babbyr, to the great honor of her micronational community.
Closing of the Summit: Gift Exchanges and Celebrations
The summit concluded with the exchange of gifts, marked by the presentation of bronze medallions offered by Venerable Sogoln Yg Ysca to all delegates present. The festivities brought together 80 guests around the large fomoire table, where specialties from several micronations were served: rosé from the Cuvée Princière d'Aigues-Mortes, mead from the Principality of Antophilia, champagne from Ilocracy of the Head -to the donkey and hypocras fomoire.
The 4th Microfrancophonie summit will be remembered as an indisputable success which stood out through its identity imprint and strengthening with kindness and joie de vivre the links between these unique nations.
