The world of micronations has just reached a historic milestone. The documentary *Micronations*, directed by Joe Kowalski, premiered at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York—one of the most influential film events in the world.

For 97 minutes, the director leads the viewer to discover an often unknown but profoundly human universe: that of women and men who have chosen to found their own nation, not out of rejection of the world, but to express a vision, defend a cause or simply create a community based on values that are dear to them.
Far from giving in to caricature, Joe Kowalski takes a look of curiosity and respect on his protagonists. The film intelligently addresses universal themes such as identity, borders, sovereignty, the feeling of belonging and the way in which everyone searches for their place in the world. Several American critics have also pointed out that the documentary begins in a light and sometimes unusual tone before gradually revealing a surprisingly profound reflection on our relationship to States, communities and borders.
The film takes the public to meet several emblematic figures of the micronational movement, including Queen Carolyn of Aldonia, Grand Duke Travis McHenry of Westarctica, President Kevin Baugh and First Lady Adrianne Baugh of Molossia, but also other leaders whose careers illustrate the diversity and richness of the micronational phenomenon.
A warm encounter with the public
Following the screening, the Tribeca Film Festival audience attended a Q&A session featuring director Joe Kowalski and several micronational heads of state who appear in the film.
Queen Carolyn, Grand Duke Travis McHenry, President Kevin Baugh, and First Lady Adrianne Baugh answered the audience's many questions with simplicity, humor, and sincerity. The discussion moved beyond the clichés often associated with micronations, highlighting the values that drive many of their founders: creativity, civic engagement, political reflection, environmental preservation, philanthropy, and a desire to create spaces where like-minded people can connect.
Early audience reactions following the screening described a captivated crowd, praising both the quality of the documentary and the warmth of the micronational leaders in attendance. Several critics noted that this interaction with the public helped demonstrate that, behind the flags, honors, and constitutions, there are—above all—passionate individuals deeply committed to dialogue and building human connections.

A wonderful recognition for the entire micronational community.
This presentation at the Tribeca Film Festival represents significant recognition for the entire international micronational community.
For decades, hundreds of micronations have been developing artistic, cultural, environmental, and humanitarian projects. While each possesses its own unique identity, they all contribute—in their own way—to questioning our understanding of states, citizenship, and human communities.
Seeing representatives from these nations invited to engage in dialogue with the audience at a world-renowned festival illustrates the shifting perception of this phenomenon. Micronations are no longer viewed merely as curiosities; they are increasingly becoming subjects of cultural and sociological reflection.
At Microcosme, we extend our warmest congratulations to Joe Kowalski and his entire team for portraying this world with such warmth and insight. We also congratulate Queen Carolyn of Ladonia, Grand Duke Travis McHenry of Westarctica, and President Kevin Baugh and First Lady Adrianne Baugh of Molossia; their accessibility, grace, and sincerity during this public engagement once again honored the spirit of dialogue that defines the international micronational community.
We hope that *Micronations* will allow a wide audience to discover a world that is often little-known, yet rich in imagination, creativity, and humanity.
